What Is Indigestion?

what-is-indigestion

In speaking with a doctor it was explained indigestion isn’t a technical term but means in-digestion, not digesting.

Generally speaking indigestion is described as discomfort of the upper digestive tract, therefore it can be something as simple as gas, bloating, and many people consider it Acid Reflux, belching, and even burping.

What can you do about it?

Before the fact, eating the right healthy foods that doesn’t upset your specific digestive track. Quantity of food is key, stuffing yourself like topping off your gas tank isn’t a good idea. Topping off your personal gas tank can cause stretching on the top of the stomach adding upward pressure, start the process of a hiatel hernia, and cause belching as well as releasing Acid and stomach content leading to Acid Reflux and eventually GERD.

If you do get indigestion or Acid Reflux note what transpired. Let Indigestion be a personal teaching moment, the solution is probably right in front of you. You might have had cold cuts and over ate and said to yourself that was stupid of me, hopefully the next time you won’t over do it.

What can you do after the fact?

There are over the counter remedies to try from Alka Seltzer and 80 plus year old solution to Gaviscon, speak to your doctor or Pharmacy for guidance and what is right for you. One thing you don’t want to do is lay down because that will eliminate the gravity component of digestion which could lead to not digesting which is the definition of indigestion.
