I took my son and his friend to see the movie “Southpaw”. Usually he goes with his friends, I was honored he invited me. Could it be because I paid? Nah, I always pay whether he invites me or not.
I’m the kind of dad that looks to catch him when he is doing something right, which I’m proud to say is quite often. I desperately look for teachable moments. I feel my job is to prepare him for the reality of adult life.
Now let’s get down to the movie “Southpaw” and what I learned and shared with my son. But first, I must say the movie was done so well that those punches to the gut reminded me of the nights I suffered from Acid Reflux and withered in pain.
The movie was about Billy Hope, a champion fighter, and his family. You see how a boxer’s buttons are pushed and how his angry response gets him into trouble, big time. How his wife was murdered, lost his daughter, lost all his riches, and came back. I guess it was like a modern ‘Rocky”. Why do I say modern? After all, Southpaw had newer cars and cell phones, Rocky was still using pay phones to speak to his coach. I almost forgot, he didn’t need a phone when he was yelling ADRIAN.
While Billy played by Jake Gyllenhaal made some bad mistakes, that cost him, you could do the same with regard to your Acid Reflux.
There are small things you could do like eating properly and stay away from certain offending foods, such as fatty greasy foods or overeating.
Then there are simple things you could do like lifting the head of the bed. While this is not simple, it can be done with an under the mattress bed wedge also known as a mattress wedge like the Reflux Guard©.
Billy Hope lost everything, Acid Reflux can do the same because if left untreated can lead to esophageal cancer.
